This is the first day that John Lloyd Clemente made his first moves to greatness in season 78 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Junior Basketball Tournament.

On that day, John Lloyd Clemente hit 18 points as the National University Bullpups waylaid the Adamson Baby Falcons, 61-55, and opened their bid to return to the finals on a bright note.

The Bullpups quickly dictated the pace of the game with 10-0 run in the start of the first period.

The Baby Falcons did not give up that easily.

They came back and overtook the Bullpups, 24-23, with 18 seconds left in the second period.

Jayson Celis hit a trey to snatch the lead.

But they got it back right away when Clemente replied with his own triple, and NU ended the half with a two-point advantage, 26-24.

In the third period, the Bullpups unleashed a 10-0 run.

With Baltazar and Penano leading the charge, the Bullups went on to post a 34-24 third quarter edge in the last 6:05.

But the Baby Falcons stayed in the thick of things.

They stayed within range, with Denzel Sabroso capping a 12-3 counterattack with a triple in the last 2:44, 36-37.

Then, back-to-back baskets from Rhayyan Amsali saw NU snatching back the upperhand, 44-26, a minute later.

The Baby Falcons continued putting up a fight, and grabbed the lead back off Carl Tamayo’s trey , 44-47, with 8:33 to go.

The lead stayed with Adamson until the last 3:05 when Daniel Atienza scored, tied the match, 55-all, and set off a final 8-0 spurt.

Clemente padded the lead with his three-point play while Philip Manalang’s split free throw at the buzzer gave them a 6-point edge at the buzzer.
